I don’t know how anyone could stand living in Jakarta. The city is a shithole. Unless you’re made out of money and don’t give a shit about the majority of the population. You have big shopping malls ladened with Gucci, Prada and super brands most people can’t afford and real slums behind these luxuries. People don’t mix, the rich shun and fear the poor, the poor hate the rich. The city isn’t safe, so like it or not, you’re stuck inside the malls.
We left China over a month ago, and we’re already bored to death in Jakarta. We have a friend in Batu, a small town about 2 hours away from Surabaya, who’s gone local and is currently living with the farmers there. So when Tiger Airways had a buy one flight get one free promotion to Surabaya, we went and booked our tickets.
Best decision ever!
